Oil-resistant rubber O-ring in China is not just a product in a catalogue. This is a solution that can withstand 120°C, operates under pressure up to 40 MPa and does not lose elasticity after three years in ISO VG 46 hydraulic oil. We tested this in practice: in two projects in Tyumen and Dnepr, rings from Tianjin worked for 41 months without replacement - provided that the groove complied with GOST 9833-73 and had no burrs.

Why an oil-resistant O-ring and not another seal?

The circular cross-section gives an even distribution of contact pressure around the entire circumference. Unlike rectangular or square rings, it does not “distort” during installation and does not require precise orientation in the groove. But the main thing is resistance to oil. Conventional NBR rubber begins to swell after only 72 hours in mineral oil. We have a different formula: modified acrylate rubber (ACM) with the addition of fluorine-containing stabilizers. It maintains hardness in the range of 70–90Shore A, even after 1000 hours of continuous contact with TM-5 gear oil.

Important: not every “oil-resistant” ring is suitable for Russian conditions. Many suppliers indicate compatibility with ASTM D471, but do not check compliance with GOST 7338–77 for volume change and hardness. We test every batch - according to two standards at once. And if the difference in swelling exceeds 8%, such a batch does not leave the workshop.

Where is it really used - and where does it fail?

  • Successful:sealing hydraulic cylinder rods in Liebherr R926 and KAMAZ-65115 excavators; seals in “Gidrosila” and “BelAZ-75131” pumps; stuffing box units in AVD-100/8 compressors;
  • Not suitable:high-frequency vibration units (for example, in ShchDP crushers), where EPDM is required; media containing alcohols or acetone - FKM is needed here; temperatures below −30°C without preheating.
  • One client from Minsk ordered rings for the hydraulic drive of a 2TE116 diesel locomotive. A week later I received a request: “Why did the 3rd cylinder leak?” We requested a photo of the groove - and found that the groove depth was 0.18mm less than normal. After adjusting the groove size according to GOST 13958–83, the leak disappeared. Conclusion: the ring is only part of the system. Its effectiveness depends on the precision of the groove, the cleanliness of the rod surface (Ra ≤ 0.8 µm) and the correct tightening force.

    How to choose - without mistakes that cost more than the ring itself

    First, do not confuse the brand of material and its actual properties. For example, NBR-70 is not a guarantee of durability. Need to know: the acrylonitrile (ACN) content of rubber must be ≥ 34%. At 28%, swelling in oil increases by 40%. We indicate ACN in certificates - at the request of the client.

    The second is geometry control. The tolerance on the ring diameter is ±0.05mm at d ≤ 50mm. For larger diameters - ±0.1mm. We measure every 10th specimen with a Mitutoyo Quick Vision laser micrometer. We don't trust only calibers.

    Third - packaging and storage. The rings are supplied in sealed bags with an inert atmosphere (nitrogen). Shelf life - 5 years at +15...+25°C and humidity ≤ 65%. One order remained in a warehouse in Kyiv for 3 years 11 months - after installation it showed the same coefficient of shape recovery as a fresh batch.

    Oil-resistant rubber O-ring in China - how to avoid compromises

    Manufacturing in Tianjin is not about “low price at any cost.” This is about a controlled process: from the selection of raw materials (only certified suppliers Lanxess and Zeon) to the final leak test in a vacuum chamber. We do not make “universal” blanks - each batch is vulcanized to a specific GOST or drawing. If you need a ring Ø22.5×3.2 mm according to GOST 9833–73, with a hardness of 85±2 Shore A and swelling ≤ 6% in TM-5, we will produce it. No minimum quantities. Without “almost the same analogue”.
